The level to which one feels confident, valuable, and appraised is referred to as self- esteem. Self – esteem as expressed in humans can either be high to low. However a person esteems himself; high or low can positively or negatively affect productivity.

Individuals with low self-esteem often feel shame and low self – confidence while others with high self-esteem often feel good about themselves and their level of success in life. People with self-doubt usually spend lots of time criticizing themselves. Mental health conditions such as anxiety and depression can lead to low self- esteem

Self-doubt can take away a person’s delight in life. They may avoid things they once enjoyed such as games, for fear of being condemned. The state of guilt anger, or sadness could dissuade them from enjoying activities they get involved with. Some individuals can take to self-destructive behaviors such as poor diet, neglecting hygiene or abusing substances.

Low self-esteem can tamper with productivity at places of work or at learning institutions. A person may be concerned about others’ opinions that they don’t pay attention on the task at hand. They may run away from taking risks or making goals out of the believe that they will fail. A person with low self-esteem may lack resilience in the face of a challenge.

Self-esteem problem most often affects one’s social life. Someone with low self-esteem may not see reasons they should love or be loved. They may try to win the heart of others and accept unfavourable treatment. Others may criticize others to recompense for their own uncertainties. The fear of not being accepted can prevent people from seeking relationships at all.


Self-esteem is a big contributor to being healthy. Low self-esteem is associated to feelings of self-doubt, shame, and inadequacy. It can stop people from getting fulfilling relationships or following their heart desires

Individuals with low self-esteem can get help in therapy. A therapist can help people identify and reduce bad self-talk
